Hi Nickie, just acknowledging your post. The date of 1841 is in Idris Williams History of Four Ways, but I am sure you have better information they did in 1933. Not had a reply from the original poster?? Best Wishes from Linda.
Re: Samuel Hallam whose name disappeared early, came from the Stourbridge Church where he had been a Deacon. He laboured diligently in the School as Secretary and Treasurer. He emigrated to America in 1841. (Posted by Lin) Thank you for posting these references to Four Ways BC Lin. I'd better just correct one thing. Samuel Hallam and family did not emigrate until 1845 and ended up in Woodstock, Ontario, Canada. I am related through one of his daughters, Priscilla Elizabeth and currently researching the family's time in the Midlands. Nickie
On the front page of http://www.staffordshirebmd.org.uk/ there is a note that says "26 November 2011 All Stafford Register Office registers have been moved to Newcastle-under-Lyme. Please ensure that all application forms are sent to the correct register office. " Does this mean that a visit to the Staffs Record Office in Stafford is no longer going to enable the searching of the various parish records? It seems odd that they would have moved the records from Stafford to Newcastle and there not be anything on the Record Office website. A confused Steve
Worcestershire Chronicle 4 Aug 1883 : "Partnerships Dissolved: John Fellows, John Henry Green, and Robert Fellows, trading as Fellows, Green, and Co., at Cradley Heath, Staffordshire, and Bromsgrove, nail, chain, rivet, and anchor manufacturers." Might be the same John Fellows as the John Fellows, colliery manager of Cradley Heath. Nickie
Another extract from the History of Four Ways:- Samuel Hallam whose name disappeared early, came from the Stourbridge Church where he had been a Deacon. He laboured diligently in the School as Secretary and Treasurer. He emigrated to America in 1841.
Robert do you have a copy of the book, 'A History of Four Ways Baptist Church 1833 - 1933?' Samuel Hallam is mentioned in there, a list of Deacons circa 1835 were Joseph Billingham, Benjamin Fellows, Samuel Hallam and William Wood. Samuel was mentioned again in 1840, where he procured some Candlesticks to light the Church Anniversary Sermon. Later in 1841 Samuel apparently resigned from the post of Treasurer. I have an interest in CH Baptist Church, as some of my Stringer Ancestors worshipped there. Eli Stringer was a Deacon at Cradley Baptist Church together with Charles Willetts circa 1850. After some disagreement with the new Pastor, they both left, presumably to Cradley Heath where they both lived. Re your 2nd email Ann Hallam is also mentioned in the Church Book. Linda.
My contact has given me more information. Samuel married to Ann in 1822 at St Editha's, Tamworth. They had a son born in 1833, and "registered" 4 children (they had 11) at New Street Baptist Church, Dudley, in 1837. I'm not sure if my contact has much more, but certainly gaps after the marriage at Tamworth. In my capacity as a contact for Cradley Heath Baptist Church, I have been asked to look at an enquiry from a descendent of Samuel HALLAM. He was a deacon at the Church in 1835, but not amongst the original founding members in 1833. But I don't know any more to answer the enquiry. The implication of him being a deacon is that he joined CHBC from another BAptist Church, probably during 1834. My enquirer thinks that he was at a Baptist Church in Stourbridge a few years later. Any leads gratefully received. Aside - Cradley Heath Baptist Church was the first Church in Cradley Heath. (Some photos on Wikipedia.) Through the historical importance, English Heritage has offered a grant for repairs, but would like in return some history exhibition. I may be the main person doing research. We have names of people, but would appreciate more detailed information. For example, John FELLOWS, a colliery manager, was a leading member of CHBC in the late nineteenth century. In due course, I shall have to research the colliery, so I would be grateful for any leads on that. We do have contacts for information - suggestions would save me re-inventing the wheel. Thanks Robert Higginson
Hi Peter, I have no idea whatsoever, sorry. I subscribe to the Dumbartonshire List and noticed the request to pass on there, so I cannot help you. I passed it on to those Lists I subscribe to locally. Looking at the response on one of those Lists, I wish I hadn't have bothered! The RC records in Birmingham RC diocese which I know includes records for St Osburgs in Coventry, Sedgley and Walsall in Staffordshire, and I believe parishes stretching down into Worcestershire as well are housed at St Chads Roman Catholic Cathedral in Birmingham and can be viewed by appointment. Hello Chris, Staffordshire Name Indexes website hold the wills of 3 WAKELINs from Uttoxeter - unfortunately not one for Edward snr - including one for a William in 1696 and one for a Dorothy, widow in 1704 - could these perhaps be your Edward snr's parents or grandparents? The National Burial Index shows the burial at Abbots Bromley (pretty close to Uttoxeter) of an Edward WAKELIN on on 9 April 1729 which would fit in pretty well with Edward jnr's apprenticeship records although Staffs Name Indexes also shows several WAKELIN wills in Abbots Bromley so perhaps this is not your Edward. Unfortunately, Uttoxeter records are not very prevalent via the web although a lot of other Staffordshire parishes are. I have not found any PR transcriptions that are available to purchase and there are few WAKELIN of Uttoxeter records on the IGI, Ancestry or FMP. Janet I have been researching my WAKELIN family for some years and have recently found that Edward Wakelin born about 1718 (estimate) was the Edward WAKELIN who founded the silversmiths company in London that eventually went on to become Gerrards. They lived in Panton St, Westminster. Edward's apprenticeship records show that when he became an apprentice in 1730, he was the son of the late Edward WAKELIN, deceased, of Uttoxeter, a baker.
Saw this on the Dumbartonshire Rootsweb List . For those on the list with Catholic ancestry http://www.heraldscotland.com/news/home-news/anger-over-decision-to-close-church-archives.18001562 Please pass this on to other Lists who may be unaware. Regards Les

Am interested in sharing information. Would be so grateful for any help Thanks in advance to anyone who can help
