Hi Denise and Jan Many thanks for your helpful comments. I am hoping that the certificate arrives in time. I rashly promised my cousin's wife to bring her family tree with me when I see her on Friday of this week. I don't drive the 120 that often. Bill Many thanks for the suggestion of Cauldon. This is a parish in its own right, but Cotton is much smaller and the other side of the A52. According to the Alton PR Part 2, Cotton Chapel Baptisms are included from 1795 to 1812. If only I could find Part 3, it might help me to know whether it was still attached to Alton or not. There are several PRINCE families in Cotton, so I will stick to that for now. Barbara, What are you looking to find? If you're after parents, shouldn't it be just as easy to look in 1851 census. Peter
Pauline, Both Jeremiah and Isabella died in 1896 There's a number of submitted trees on Ancestry. But none have traced the fate of Ann Billingham & Jasper Gilbert. Part of the problem is that the people doing the research haven't put in all the relevant dates and locations from BDM and census records. If you Google "Jasper Gilbert" + Billingham you'll get a number of hits linking to Billingham family trees. I don't have time to check them all. Ancestry also gives a number of hits for Jasper Gilbert in US Census records. Could just be a namesake, but you should check it out. Peter
Hi Barbara, Just looked on ancestry for George Thomas Bradbury but cannot find them on the 1911 census, but there is a copy of a marrage certificate which maybe George's sister Eliza Annie Bradbury daughter of Thomas E Bradbury of 34 Albion Street Longton on the 3 November 1912 to James Sparks at Longton, one daughter second marriage to James A Tams 1916 4 sons and 2 more daughters. Barbara.... You might want to dig a little into the family living at 10 Cooke St. Longton at the time of the 1911 census. They have a child called George Bradbury of similar age to the one you are looking for and he has siblings called Stephen, Ann and Emma whose ages are not quite right but not far off. Hi Barbara, Have a look on Staffordshire BMD for 1842 and it will give you the refernce number and you can either send a letter or phone Newcastle-under Lyme register office and it will cost approx £10 plus postage. I think William may have been living with his grandparents on the 1851 census. I assume the William Prince you have found is living with grandparents in 1851 you can go along the line of one of their daughter's married a ? Prince prior to when William was born. William and Ann Alcock also have a daughter, Ann who is classed as unmarried although at 34 is well old enough to have had William previously. You would need to check on them in 1841 and check if there was another daughter who may have married. If not it is a start anyway. Peter Good thinking, but unfortunately he is not with his parents in either the 1851 or 1861, and by 1871 he is living with his wife and his in-laws. So are his parents dead already or is he illegitimate? Who knows? Hello Sue The BILLINGHAM family that Ann Beatrice and Alice belong to are from Rowley Regis. Their parents were Jeremiah BILLINGHAM and Isabella TROMANS. My main query was where to look for Ann as I can't find her or her family on 1911 census the rest of this family I can account for. I have also looked on Find My Past at the shipping records to no avail. Alice was my husband's g/mother. You jump from Ann to Alice to Beatrice. Could I suggest you go back a generation and show their relationship and parents and then perhaps produce a descendant list showing what you know. Have you looked for submitted trees on Ancestry or Rootsweb? Peter Sorry Peter if my request seemed to be confusing but thank you for suggesting looking on Ancestry or Rootsweb. Ann Beatice Alice Alfred and Elenor were the children of Jeremiah BILLINGHAM b 1847 and Isabella TROMANS b 1850 and married 1872 in the Parish Church Dudley Worcester Alfred and Elenor died at a young age. Alice (my husband's G/mother) married James LOCKWOOD and came to NZ with their 3 children in 1927 All the information I have on this family has been proved. It is annoying. I have searched through all my boxes of fiche and the only one missing is the one I want. Can anyone check the baptism of William PRINCE for me in the Alton parish register. His birth was registered in third quarter of 1842 and he was born in Cotrton rather than Alton itself. Regards Barbara Harvey St Albans
