    1. [STAFFORDSHIRE] Archives at Ruskin College, Oxford
    2. Ooooppss
    3. Ruskin College, Oxford, which has been a part of Oxford University since 1899, was originally formed to enable "working class" people to have an Oxford education. Ruskin College is now moving to the outskirts of Oxford, and its leadership has sanctioned the destruction of its archives, many of which contain records of Ruskin's first students. Those students included members of the working class, whose stories, if they are lost, may never be recoverable. These unique and irreplaceable archives include accounts of Ruskin's first students, and provide valuable insights into England's history. In this digital age, it's sometimes hard to remember that just a few decades ago, the entirety of our history was recorded solely on hard copy. But just because we have the capability to have digital information doesn't mean that we should forget the value of what came before. If you think that the preservation of Ruskin's archives is important, please will you sign this petition www care2 com/go/z/e/AG72Q/zM78/chTcq (Replace the two spaces with dots) Thanks! And please ask your friends to join the cause.

    3. Hi Sandra Why not contact Birmingham Register Office who hold the registers for Kings Norton RD. They have a resident genealogist to make sure people get the correct certificate and have phoned me up to ask if I had any additional information. He also comes out and gives talk on his job and register office procedures in general. Phone and ask if they have a marriage for Henry Bevington in Sep Q 1895 as you can't find a wife or any other entries on the GRO page 6c 632a. 3. Hi Sandra, re: "I'm looking at marriages Sept Qtr 1895 King's Norton I have Henry Bevington 6c 632a - I can't find a spouse for him ! Can anyone help please." There's no corresponding spouse on Find My Past or The Genealogist either The suffix after the page number "a" suggests that this was a late entry in the index When incumbents were late in submitting returns for their church after the index had been compiled the clerks inserted them into the correct page with a suffix to the page number. It could be a clerical error where they added the groom from a late entry but forgot to add the spouse. As someone else mentioned, bite the bullet and order the certificate! 3. Hi Sandra Looking at 1901 and 1911 census Henry appears to have married Mary J Florence Taylor ( birth record for her Jun Q 1871) Trying for a marriage of Henry and Mary in King's Norton Registration district this marriage comes up Harry Bevington to Mary Jane F Taylor, Sep Q 1891 King's Norton. This fits with 1911 census when they state a marriage of 20 years. This maybe something you would like to explore further. Regards Hilary Hilary Thomas family@mypandas.me.uk

Also check off against GENUKI to see what non-conformist churches were in the area and what happened to their records, because not all went to Kew. Adrian

    3. Hello List, I am at a standstill with my Southall/Southwell family & I think that it is now time that I looked at other churches other than the C o E. Grosvenor Southwell/Southall bap c1725 Joseph Southall baptised c1826 (born Whittington but not baptised there). Joseph on the 1870 census is shown to be a coal miner & Primitive Local Preacher, in Australia he was a Methodist & buried as one. Joseph was a poet & wrote many letters to the paper. He also was a strong advocate for education especially for the children of miners where he became a union man. I believe the Primitive church was very strong on education. If anyone who researches these churches & has seen these two fellows I would appreciate hearing from you or else please tell me where these records are held. Many thanks. Robyn
