So he may well have followed the work. It may be useful to see what railway was being built near where and when you have found him, and then follow that railway (as he did) and you may find other evidence of him & his family. Irish then implies a strong probability of being RC.

Liz, Our local history society had a tour of St Joseph and Etheldreda R.C. church, Rugeley last year. If my memory serves me aright, I think I recollect the parish priest saying he (and his pre-decesors) had retained the church registers in his safe. The situation may have changed since but you could check with him or look if they are listed on-line in the holdings of the county record office at Stafford. Hi Peter I cant find a BMD record for this lady, I usually look there first after 1837 - I am new to this list and this line, but am back a long way on other lines. I have census records for the family, my reason for wanting the baptism is that it will give me a more accurate year of birth than the census returns for when I am searching BMDs, which I have yet to find her on. I choose to get certificates for direct line, Thanks Liz P On 17 March 2013 00:02, Peter R Booth <pbo08596@bigpond.net.au> wrote: > > I struggle to understand why post 1837 people would look for baptisms > rather than civil birth registrations. > > For me the simple rule is > pre 1837 church records on FamilySearch > post 1837 civil registrations on FreeBMD > > The LDS were unlikely to be given Catholic records and a lot of the time > they ceased filming at 1837. Hello from Hingham, MA, USA. Me too! My grandfather, Charles Francis Sweeney, was born in Rugeley on January 11, 1885. If there is anyone out there who could secure the baptismal record, I would be very appreciative of same. If there is charge, would be glad to pay. Hi May I apologise for the broken links. The main page site should work. It seems I do have a problem with the other site links. However at the moment there is nothing in these pages yet. Will be shortly. A new update for gen mag will be available by Monday. You will need a special reader to view the magazine - there is a link on the main page for this. I would put a link here but not sure if that is allowed. Steve Thanks Cliff for originally pointing it out to me. I copy below a message from Dave Ogden (The Listowner). Also, please read the messages that are appended to all messages. Trev One or two emails have made it through to the lists lately giving just a single URL, as it says on the bottom of every posting to the lists that I run, DON'T follow a single URL posted to the list (usually with no other text), it's usually from an infected source. There's nothing that I can do to stop a mail getting through from a subscriber who is infected (I can only stop unsubbed people from posting). There has recently been a hack on Yahoo mail where most of this problem is emanating at the moment. I can only unsub people after the event and allow them to resub after they've cleaned their machines and hopefully moved to a safer email provider.
