Dear Ann: In the book "List of inscriptions on tombstones and monuments in Ceylon" by J. Penry Lewis, published 1913, there are two Kochs listed in the section called "Obituary of the uncommemorated". I presume that the first line in each case is information in the church burial register, but not sure. No. 1695 Jaffna June 13, 1822 at Jaffna, John Godfried KOCH Esq., lieutenant in the Dutch E.I. Company's Service, aged 54, leaving behind him nine children to lament his loss. (This second part is Penry Lewis's commentary.) He was the son of Godfried KOCH of Alt-Ruppin, Neywork, Brandenburg (now Germany), who was born 1734, went out to Ceylon in the ship 'Rosenberg' in 1755 and married, November 9, 1760, Wilhelmina Magdalena ROVERT. Lt. J.G. Koch married Susanna Elizabeth BROHIER. Their son, Cyrus Godfried, married Jacomina Bernadina TOUSSAINT. Their son was the late Rev. Charles Alexander KOCH, Colonial Chaplain of Holy Trinity Church, Colombo. No. 1697 Jaffna June 17, 1836 at Jaffna, Mary Ann, wife of Mr. Louis Henry KOCH, only daughter of the late Lt. Hi MaryJane, We have been trying for years to find out where my Great-grand-father (Richard William Rowlands) died in Ceylon and where he is buried, with no success. When we migrated to Australia in 1960 and had to submit a genealogy for the approval of Mr Altendorf my father found that RWR died on 23rd April 1888. When my father died I went through all his papers but could not find any evidence to support this. To try a long shot, I wonder whether his name appears in the Book of Tombstones and Monuments.
