Camilla, If you get an answer, I would be very interested if you could share it. The only place I have found is The National Archive of Sri Lanka: http://www.tanap.net/content/archives/archives.cfm?ArticleID=201 but I have had no time to contact them yet. I understand from other sources that they don't often answer letters... but guess that if you make an appointment and go there personally, may be with a little incentive in an envelope for their Xmas, you might get somewhere! I am myself researching my wife's gr. Father from a family of planters in Ceylon: Mathew Thomas married Marianne Skinner in Ceylon in 1864. 6 children were born there. I have asked a pro. To try to dig out the marriage certificate... Will know more in a few days. Two good sites about Sri Lanka / old Ceylon if you have not yet found them: http://justus.anglican.org/resources/pc/asia/lk/rowlands/ the fascinating journal of a missionary in Ceylon in the 1850's and http://www.historyoftea.dilmahtea.com/Fe_navigation/navigation.asp?Strpubcod e=F007# where one finds scans of some of the planter's association records and Ferguson directories. Is it possible to search for BDM's if you are in the country. I am mainly interested in death certificates of my GGGparents, namely Arthur Mansell Carré and Ellen Carré who were married in Kandy in 1866, would like that certificate too! I think she may have died before 1900 but Arthur would have lived in the 1900's. I have the birth certificate for their first child, my GGmother, registered in kandy and there were 6 others. I would appreciate any comments on my chances or any other information that might be available.
