Hi everybody! I have posted this on the Sri-Lanka message board, but India seems to be more active! I am researching my wife's ancestors in Ceylon; these families were well established in Ceylon, for at least 3 generations. Any information about them (dates, tombstones, etc) and also about Oonoongalla, Madulkelle (Mathew Henry Thomas, my wife's gr.gr. father) was Justice of peace there) and the Ghaleeria Estate (or Galheriya) in Kelebokke Valley would be very welcome! Mathew Henry Thomas 1837-1915 ? married Maria Theresa Skinner 1839-1901, daughter of Major Thomas B. B. Skinner 1804 - 1877 (of 50 years in Ceylon) and Georgina Burrell 1818-1866 (daughter of Lt. General George Burrell 1777-1853 & Marianne Theresa Thomas 1781? - 1830). One of their sons Edward Hector Le Marchant Thomas b.1868, married Geraldine Blake Cameron, daughter of Hardinge Hay Cameron and Angeline Blake, and grand daughter of Charles Hay Cameron d.1880 and Julia Margaret Pattle 1815-1879 (a.k.a. Julia Cameron, the famous Victorian photographer). Incidentally, a descendant of Julia Cameron was Virginia Woolf. Many thanks for your help, Jean Ferran. I've found Charles Hay Cameron & wife Julia in the UK 1871 Census.
