Hi all I am still looking for the deaths of Arthur Mansell Carre and Ellen nee Browne. Ellen is difficult as family stories abound. The youngest child was born in 1876. He was in Bedford, England in 1881 census age 4. The other children all returned to England as well but are not picked up until they are older. Some say Ellen went mad. I am not surprised considering one child dies and 5 went to UK! I think this may have been when her troubles began and probably died before 1900. Arthur was in the Kandy area to begin with and managed many plantations over the years. I have the records. In 1904 he retired at Suduganga, Maskeliya. In 1909 he is Rosawatte, Kandy. Ellen's father was Robert Bogle Browne. I am pretty sure the parents went there as well. They vanished out of UK after 1851. I went there last year in September for a week and found the christenings of 4 of the children and marriage of her sister Amy and a cousin. I was told the the person who did this was busy and unable to do it before I left. I left money,more than I was asked for, self addressed envelope and details of the entries to be copied. The elderly gentleman who looks after the records came and asked me for money to attend a special seminar, gave that. Also made a donation to the Church on my first visit. On my return I sent Christmas Cards to the gentleman and the Minister in charge. No certificates arrived so I then sent International stamps. I got a christmas card but nothing else. This was St Pauls C of E in Kandy! The minister as well as the church warden. At the church in Pussellawa exactly the same thing happened. The lady there spoke perfect English and has a daughter in Sydney. My camera broke while I was there or I would have taken pics. I could kick myself now! The people there are having a really tough time and I tried to be as generous to them as I could. I have given up now after 2 letters to them. Regards Camilla
