Gay, Yes, in answer to both questions! I remain convinced that I have to look for a marriage in this country (UK). I will start with Manchester (where the eldest child, that I am aware of, was born) and work backwards from there! I have in my possession a book 'The history of the Royal Irish Regiment,, which, in an appendix, gives a chronological diary of the location of the regiment!
