Goodness me! This is a hard way to go. By the way it doesn't take you back to the LDS library. Surely it is easier to go to the Library yourself and search for what you want. I didn't reply on my behalf. I was trying to help Christopher. I am very familiar with the LDS and Sri Lanka research. Hi Camilla, I wish that I had the LDS library here in Israel but they dont have a center here and so I cannot order the films, besides their pages were difficult to follow for me as they are listed in in different subjects or listings, that is why I made the file. Strange, I have the whole excel file in the computer and all the lines which are in blue go automatically to the LDS page of that file and back again when I click on "back". I have to check out what is going on, thanks for telling me. regards, Jennifer On 09/04/07, Camilla Barlow <ceebee123@swiftdsl.com.au> wrote: > Goodness me! This is a hard way to go. Jennifer, I work here at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City. If you can pinpoint the film you need, I would be happy to crank it. I don't have a lot of time to do the research end but can snatch some time to look at a film for you. Just let me know - no time limit - in fact, I'm in school right now so later would be better for me. Also, on www.nationalarchives.gov.uk in "Search archives" and then "The Catalogue", search your soldier's name and WO97 as the entire database for WO97 is on the web. From that reference, I may be able to find a film here for you as well unless you have all his soldiering information already. Thank you very much for your offer Margo, and really no hurry whenever you have time if you can peek at the films. I have to commend the LDS center and your colleagues because also Gerda Bals and Susan Wilhelm helped me very efficiently in 2004, but alas I am stuck for a reply from Sri Lanka already a long time. I am looking for "Correspondence of the Colombo Consistory with The Netherlands (outward), 1721-1798. The film numbers are 1495578 item 5 and 1495579 items 1-4. In the above I am in particular looking for Wilhelm Buultjens (1715 - 03 Jan 1791) his wife (or wives) Elizabeth Adriaansz (1739 – 22 May 1829) they married in 1779 in Galle. The strange thing is that Wilhelm arrived in 1746 in Galle and only in 1779 I have that marriage date for him with Elizabeth. However, the 4 children listed for him have early birth dates and I think Elizabeth was a second or third wife. Johanna, born? – died 7 Feb 1832 Maria, born 28th March 1765 – died 7 May 1824 Hendrik, born 27 March 1770 – died 15 Nov 1817 Dirk, born 1777 christened 23 Apr 1777 – died 24 Mar 1811, married unknown wife(wives) I am interested in the offspring of Hendrik and mostly of Dirk (my branch). I would like to know if there are genealogy notes on the above films (b – m – d data) or just church minutes like you can see on website: http://www.aecg.evtheol.lmu.de/cms/index.php?id=10 which are the Minutes of the Consistory of the Dutch Reformed Church in Colombo Held at the Wolvendaal Church, Colombo 1735–1796 Translated by S. A. W. Mottau † Edited by Klaus Koschorke Thank you again very much, regards, Jennifer On 10/04/07, Margo Mckinstry <McKinstryMJ@ldschurch.org> wrote: > Jennifer, > > I work here at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City. LDS film transcripts. Larry and Coreen Andresen here, back in circulation after a house interior rebuild after Cyclone Larry damage in 2006. 11 months for the Insurance Company to come good !! Lucky we have family research and the garden to keep us sane. We usually spend 2 hours a week at the local LDS library, this is all our local..(70 Km away).. library in Cairns is open, and order and view films from Ceylon, India and the UK looking for clues to the elusive origin of James Thomas Anderson who married Adriana Toussaint in Jaffna in 1803, and after her death, married Johanna de Vos on 14th Feb 1831 in Galle. As Jennifer has pointed out there are over 4000 LDS films on Ceylon and our reseach has turned up many disappointments when we have looked at the films. A classic example was the Galle and Jaffna marriage films No 1208266 and 1208262 respectively. Both these films are for Village marriages only and do not show any Dutch or English marriages at all. We try to get a hard print of any family related record we find and lately any that listers are interested in, and have accumulated close to 200 pages over the years, but at a dollar a copy now this is getting a little expensive as retirement for us both looms large. Is it possible for listers to list films that they have searched, or are viewing and give, a critical review of its worth? We have just ordered our next 4 films. schooltombo for Negombo 1212893, Baptism index Dutch reformed church 1806 to 1861,1495574. De Meuron Regiment.1514780 and Registrations Births and Marriages Ceylon 1677 to 1990, 1610373. Any listers who have a family interest in any of these please let us know so we can jot down details...We have the list of interests from the last lookups, so just new ones please. We have a few answers from our last two films for some listers that we will put on the site over the next week. We have had to live in a caravan for a month, and move everything out of the house, and as we have just moved in again all our books and research material have to be unpacked. It will be good to get back to the normal routines !! Thank you David and Anne for the Times Bedfordshire online library. I spent a good part of last night researching my mothers line, Perrott, with great success !! There is another great site called www.openlibrary.org which has old books out of copyright and searchable and printable on it..We downloaded One Hundred Years in Ceylon, or, The Centenary Volume of the Church Missionary Society in Ceylon 1818- 1918. Names being researched by listers noted were Layard and Dowbiggin. It also lists all CMS Sinhalese and Tamil Clergy too. There is also an interesting bibliography list in the front of the book. Keep up the sharing of information, it is what makes this list so great to be a part of, L&C. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Camilla Barlow" <ceebee123@swiftdsl.com.au> To: "List Mail Srilanka" <SRILANKA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, April 09, 2007 6:15 PM Subject: Re: [SRILANKA] LDS file of SL microfilms of Ceylon > Goodness me! Hi Coreen & Larry If you would like to add the name STRUYS to your list I would be eternally grateful for any reference to this rare name you might come across in your travels. The family was based in the northern part of the island around Baticaloa in the mid 1800's and may have been of either Methodist, Baptist or Dutch Reform persuation. I'll keep a look out for James Thomas. Best regards from Melbourne.
