Julian, there are two entries for Davidson in Tombstones and Monuments in Ceylon..one is an Alexander, have you seen them? Do you know what church the Andrew Alexander Davidson / Jane Caroline de Haan wedding in 1849 was in ? We have the volume and page reference for it but to get the entry is nigh on impossible from Colombo and there are a few LDS films which are specific in naming the church. The entry books at Kew are about 80 in number and they only list people coming into the East Indies, so people already in India, Mauritius, Africa, Batavia etc are not listed. They are by date..year and there may be more than one book for each year so it is a tedious and often fruitless search . The records CO 55 series are for Ceylon (Colonial Office) and WO 55 are Ceylon (War Office) . Contrary to popular belief there are Ceylon records at the India Office holdings at the British Library.Again the search routine is slow and tedious, the staff are wonderful, and were so patient with an Aussie Bushie with no idea on what he was doing. The 3 records that could help with early British Ceylon Family research are 1. Dutch prisoners of war allowed to go to Ceylon or Batavia..1798 -1799. IOR \ F \ 4 \ 74 \ 1621 2. Pensioners Bencoolen, Dutch pensioners India and Ceylon. IOR \ F \ 4 \ 10307 \ 51937 3. Dutch pensions / British pensions 1825-29. IOR \ F\ 4\ 1191 / 30884 Happy hunting, Larry&Coreen
