Coreen&Larry here again, after another couple of hours last night looking at LDS films. Film 1495574 is the most fascinating film we have seen since the THE HAGUE find last year. It has REGISTER of a MARRIAGE SOLOMNIZED by or in the PRESENCE of a MINISTER We copied 4 ANDERSON MARRIAGES.and also some names that we know listers are interested in Anthonisz-Buultzens Ludovici-Leembruggen Leembruggen-Ferdinands Leembruggen-Raffel Ferdinands-Struys Orr- Orchard(de Bruin) Melder- Lemphers van Dort-Simons Pieris-van Dort Zinsan-van Dort van Dort-Poulier Passe-van Twest Van Twest-Quyn Toussaint-de Vos Weinman-Garvin Rulach-Daniels These are from 1905 to 1950s and seem only for Dutch Pres Churches, Regent St, Maligakande and Bambalapitiya These are just like the English and Australian Marriage certificates with age, proffession, address, fathers name and proffession etc.We have taken down by hand the surname of the bride and groom for most of these registers and have the film for another two sessions only. The next item of special interest to all of us is the 8 page inventory of the church records in Colombo. Looking at these there is still hope in finding Jaffna, Trinco and Galle records of the early British period, its only a matter of finding the right film! The film also has a death register for the above churches in the mid 1920-30s. NOW, Communion books were a revelation, eg Weinman, John Johnson(Jeff) 1535th Lane Castle Street, Borella. born 21st July 1885, bapt 30th August 1885 Norah Kathleen (nee Bartholomeusz) born 22 July 1904 John Richard born 07 August 1928 bapt 18th Dec 1929 Geoffrey Charles born 9th May 1930 bapt 28 Feb 1931 Patricia Maud born 9th Nov 1932 bapt 2nd jan 1933 Diana Joyce born 26th July 1934 bapt 21st Nov 1934 There are also another 3 Weinman families Struys are represented by Hector Bertram and Cora Nesta (neeJansz) and 3 children. Again we have copied the family names and will post to the list. the hard copiesof marriage registers we have are not suitable for scanning but we will post to listers, Please give us your address off list to maintain privacy. If any listers have thoughts or ideas on setting up a free transcribers group so that the info we get is available to all we would be interested in putting our findings up for all to see .Maybe a database or excel file? Keep On Searching And Hoping!! Coreen&Larry
Hi Larry and Coreen, If you ever come across the marriage of Emily Elizabeth HUDSON (also known as DE SILVA) to Alfred Ernest WHATMORE, I would be fascinated. It would have been about 1880 and probably in Colombo. Likewise the baptisms or marriages of any of their numerous children - any WHATMOREs in the records there are likely to be descendants of Alfred Ernest and therefore at some stretch related to me - Alfred and Emily were my great-grandparents. I have a birth certifcate for their first children, a pair of twins. My understanding is that Alfred remarried (? Anthoneusz) and a few more offspring after that. BTW, if anybody knows of any WHATMOREs still in Sri Lanka, please let me know as I am going there in August and would love to track them down. I doubt I will be in a position to do any research even for myself - if I find a distant cousin that will be as good as it gets.
