    3. Please view our website regarding the Johnson's Island Memorial project! (For those of you with Webster County and Braxton County WV/VA roots, WALTER COOL and JOHN S. SPRIGGS were POWs at Johnson Island prison.) http://johnsonsislandmemorial.homestead.com/Index.html This project is an official project of the Ohio Division of the Untied Daughters of the Confederacy. Our project is discussed at our website and you can also view photographs of the past Confederate Memorial Day services held at the Island near Sandusky Ohio. As many of you know, there has been ground penetrating radar and thermal imagery tests conducted at the Confederate cemetery on Johnson's Island in Ohio this past year. Many bodies have been discovered not previously marked with headstones. We feel that these men deserve to have a monument built and dedicated to them since they have paid the ultimate sacrifice for our Southern heritage. Plans are being made to erect 3 monuments, one for the Unknown Soldiers and 2 separate 6 foot high monuments with bronze name plates with accurate information of the men that we know have died there while imprisoned. Research was conducted this past year with members of our UDC and local SCV to verify our soldiers names and information. We plan to have a large Confederate Memorial day service in 2003 with the dedication of the new monuments. Funds are needed.....and this is where we need help! For a $ 25.00 donation, we will send you a gift of a period drawn map measuring 17" x 22". Only 1000 maps were designed for this project and they are hand numbered. Thanks for helping our Cause and for paying tribute to the newly discovered graves at the Confederate cemetery.
