I'm having problems with the parentage of Mary Sprague who married William Hewitt about 1806 in Edinburg, Saratoga County, NY, where they remained for the rest of their lives. Many "trees" state she is the daughter of Obadiah who was born, lived, and died in Providence, RI.  Some say her mother was Mary ??? and a few say it was Sarah???  Obadiah's will lists a daughter named Mary and further states that she was the widow of a Demount.  her tombstone states she was born in 1749 and died in 1790 in RI - none of this matches my Mary who married William Hewitt.  Per the 1850 and 1860 census my Mary was born in 1780 and I know she died in 1868.  Also, per the census, she was born in RI.  Since Obadiah never left RI, how did my Mary end up in Edinburg, NY?  With the above evidence, I would say that my Mary is not the child of Obadiah.  However Obadiah did have a daughter named Mercy that no "trees" had any info on - could this my Mary?  Hopefully some of you can shed some light on this for me.
