A Napoleon furniture expert has seen the chair and has agreed that it's likely from St. Helena. There is writing on a note lacquered onto to the back of the chair, which tells of the chair's provenance--but of course, half of it has been torn away. Since "Albany, New York" is plainly visible, and looking at the timing, we believe it might have belonged to William Buell Sprague (b. 1795)or one of his family members (passed on through the years to our family). Does anyone know anything about this chair or have the missing half of the writing? I have a photo if that helps. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
