As far as I know they both lived in Moriah New York and he was a logger and a farmer and had two children, James Earl and Wilbur Sr. My grandfather, his son was James Earl Sprague Sr., my father was James Earl Sprague Jr. I have searched many a cemetery and the internet but can't find this missing link in my heritage, I know those that came after him, his children and those that came before him his father, but not Walter, can anyone help with this? "Butch" Sprague, 74, Muscatine passed away Monday, April 12, 2010, at University Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City. Ronald was born on October 24, 1935, in Muscatine, the son of James and Ella Lewis Sprague. He married Margaret A. Fulton on October 7, 1960, in Iowa City. He had served in the United States Air Force. He retired as a pipefitter for Union Local 387. He raised and showed field trial coon dogs, and enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years. He was a very social person and loved to talk. He was a great fan of the Hawkeyes, Cubs and Bears. Most of all he loved his grandson Jamie. Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Margaret Sprague of Muscatine; a son, Tim Sprague and wife, Kristin, of Muscatine; grandson, Jamie Sprague of Muscatine; and many nieces and nephews. Sprague, 69, Memphis, died Sunday, April 13, 2003, at the Vet's Hospital, Memphis. Services are 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Forest Hill Memorial Park, Memphis. Mr. Sprague was born on April 16, 1933, the son of William Harlan and Hazel Marie Blake Sprague. He grew up in the Muscatine area and attended school in Grandview. He served in the U.S. Army from May 1951 until he was injured in June 1953. He loved to write songs and poetry. Some of his poetry received national recognition. He was also an avid chess player, entering local contests, and often donating his winnings to his favorite charity. Survivors include his wife, a son, four step-children and grandchildren, all of Memphis; two brothers, Paul of Nichols and Louis of Fruitland; and a sister, Patsy Courtney of Muscatine. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, a brother and his grandparents. ================ NICHOLS, Iowa -- Paul R. Sprague, 68, Nichols, died Thursday, Sept. 16, 2004, at his home. Memorial services are 1:30 p.m. today at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home, 2907 Mulberry Ave. The Rev. Daniel Rohr will officiate. After the burial, a time of food and fellowship will be held in the Community Room at the funeral home. Visitation was held Sunday, Sept. 19, at the funeral home. Natural Bridge---The death of Sheridan Sprague, 68 occurred Monday at 9a.m. at the Carthage hospital where he had been receiving treatment for the past ten days. He had been in poor health for several years. He was born near Antwerp Feb 25,1872 the only son of Eugene Sprague and Viola Klock. His early years were spent in the vicinity of Antwerp. On Dec.25,1899 he married Miss Anna Hurlbut, of Lewisburg. To this union were born two sons, Milton of Kenova, W.VA. and Alvin whose death occured in 1924 at the age of 19 and one daughter, Mrs. Harold (Mabel) Ross of this place. In 1902 they came to this village to reside later going to Kenova, W. Va. where they lived for several years. Mr. Sprague was employed by a lime co. of that place. He was a carpenter by trade. In 1926 they returned to this place where Mr. Sprague conducted a wood working shop until failing health necessitated his retirement. Mrs. Sprague's death occurred Jan. 2, 1940, Since then Mr. Sprague made his home with his daughter. He is survived by his son and daughter; six grandchildren; his mother, Mrs. Viola Backus of Antwerp and three half brothers,Charlee and Wilton Backus of Antwerp and Karl of this place. The funeral will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ross with Rev. A.W. Walker, pator of the Methodist church, officiating. Burial will be made at Hillside Cemetary.
