I may not have used the Sprague List of late, but I have used it in the pasts and will be sorry for it to be discontinued. I wish I could take it over, but I don't know enough about the workings of the computer to be of any use to anyone. May you enjoy other activities and know that you have been a great help to many finding Sprague family members and their relatives. The best to you and thank you so much for all the work you have put into the Sprague List. I have looked at the Sprague database. The problem with our Seth is we do not know where or when he was born or where he is buried. Nothing we have ever found about him in Ohio indicates that information or even names of parents or siblings. He is a mystery. So far, I have no Nash or Louisa Sprague. Good luck to you in your search. I do not know of any of my Spragues who went to Canada. I have not traced them beyond about 1800 in Ohio. Not sure that Sprague is actually our family name because my great grandfather, Joseph Sprague, hinted that he might have been adopted by Seth Sprague and Margaret Clark. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Charles HARRIS which was taken at the Brown Studio in Webster City, IA. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1890's with Charles likely in his 20's at the time it was taken. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding Charles and his family: Charles A. HARRIS was b. 1867 in New York to parents Charles H. HARRIS (b. 20 Feb 1835 in Paterson, NJ) and Helen Maria JOHNSON (b. 22 Mar 1845 in Lansing, MI). Charles was one of 8 children born to this couple including, Charles A.; Ida L.; Walter C.; Finley L.; George H.; Clara; Ilo Claude; and Edward Lawrence HARRIS, all born between 1868 and 1890. Charles d. 1939 in Bettendorf, IA and is buried in the Graceland Cemetery in Webster City, IA. His obituary indicated that he had one daughter, Mrs. E. C. HANSEN of Fort Dodge, IA; a Sister Mrs. George SPRAGUE of Webster City, IA; and three brothers, George H. HARRIS of Pittsburgh, PA; Edward L. HARRIS of White Fish, MT; and Ilo HARRIS of Webster City, IA. He also had a half-sister, Mrs. Pearlie ABNER of Marshalltown, IA; and a half-brother Roy C. BARBER of Waterloo, IA. Charles was the Justice of the Peace in Webster for many years and owned and operator a Barbershop there for many years as well. Charles previously lived in Des Moines, IA and Clarion, IA. Census records provide the following details: 1900 census of Williams, IA: (boarding in the home of Andrew J. and Margaret WRIGHT) Charles A. HARRIS, age 32, born Aug 1867, born NY, parents born NJ/MI, a Barber 1925 census of Webster City, IA: Charles A. HARRIS, age 57, a widower Gladys R. HARRIS, dau, age 22 1930 census of Webster City, IA: Charles A. Try the Sprague Data Base by Dick Weber that you can find online. -----Original Message----- From: RootsWeb Gateway Notification Sent: Tuesday, June 14, 2016 6:07 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [SPRAGUE] Sprague Brooklyn NY [1]ancestry This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: dailygrind73 Surnames: Brown, Cunningham Classification: queries Message Board: [2]Click here Message Board Post: I am searching for any information about a Samuel Sprague married to Melvine (Melvini) Brown born 1889. They had 2 children Donald Sprague b. 1911 and Alois Sprague b. 1914. They lived in New York City in 1910 not sure how much earlier before then in NYC. Melvini Brown's father was born in Pennsylvania. She was widowed by age 31 and was a dressmaker from home. I would love to find out more about Melvini's parents and/or Samuel Sprague's parents. Melvini and Sam showed up in 1910 census NYC but can't find them anywhere afterward. I know their son Donald Sprague lived. He is my great grandfather. He married a Catherine Cunningham (Sprague) and they had 4 children Donald, Maryanne, Janice and Robert. No other information about Alois though. Any insight would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance Tara Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
