    2. Hi cousins, My mailbox was full today and some messages didn't get to me. Hopefully by now, my box is clean and the messages come through. I signed on for 4 GenConnect boards on other families of mine, and had to subscribe to a managers list for that, and believe you me, I'm canceling my sub to that list ! It's incredible the volume ! To answer some of your topics: My computer is all but shot also, and I'm in the process of getting a new one. The problem is that I haven't decided whether to get a laptop or what. See, between my husband, son and I , we have 3 computers and all three are on their last leg. So we are thinking about getting a laptop for husband and I, to share and cleaning up my old one for a upgrade for son. We have so much stored and are afraid of losing tons of stuff like the last time in 1995. I haven't began work on my webpage at rootsweb and have been putting it off until I get this computer conversion over with. James G. is a super webmaster as he has great webpages already in place for the GA line, and I must admit that I'm a little scared of the whole thing. I think James' idea of putting signature lines on our posts is a good idea, but honestly I don't know where in AOL to accomplish this. I've looked several times. James, can you guide me in getting mine established ? I may need to call on you for help on the webpage also, if you will help me. The Spence Chart that we are working with began with Claire in VA, who charted out her Bluford line as far as she had it on a huge piece of paper. She mailed one to Luanne in San Antonio TX and Luanne, bless her heart traveled all over town trying to find a copy shop that had a printer large enough to copy it for me. She mailed me a copy and I realized that the chart was an ideal way of seeing who was connected to who without going into your computer. So, I copied the chart onto some 11 X 20 card stock and added Burwell's bunch, some unattached Spences, the GA line, and several families in TN, KY and I need to add some NC families. The result so far is a 25 or so page booklet. I reduce the cards to 8 X 11 and can then mail them to who ever desires the chart. I try to post corrections on the list, so those who have them can get out their liquid paper and fix things, or add people to it. I carry it to work with me in my briefcase and can pull it out and study it any time I get an idea or want to check to see how someone was related to another. Corny, old fashioned ? Yes, but it works for me . So that's what the Spence chart is..... Yes there will be a Spence board on GenConnect at Rootsweb. I only hope Barbara hasn't had as much trouble as I have getting mine up and going. Anything worthwhile takes time and persistance, so it will be great in time ! Mary Anne, that's great that Kathy Dietz or Deitz is in Burwell's line. Now I just have to find her again. Darn it, she asked so nicely if I would please respond to her message. I can't and I hope she hasn't lost hope. Normally I print every message but this particular day my printer was on the fritz ( as usual ) so I jotted down the addy, but must have written it wrong ! I'll do some searches on addys and see if I can locate her. Everyone please keep your eyes open for her name while you are surfing. Another brilliant idea ! Let's have a tug-o-war at the reunion between the Bluford Busters and the Burwell Bunch ! Winter recruitment People !!! Those of you unattached can be the referees ! Burwell's Bunch better get busy 'cause when we connect the GA line to the Bluford Busters, they will outnumber us !!! <grinning> Photographs: Jeffrey, that picture you sent me is GREAT !!! Do you know who the couple are ? The name says Jonathan H. Spence and Emma Jane Hunter Spence. I know the MD line married Hunters. When I get time ( if there is such a thing) I want Jeffrey to put all my ancestors pictures on a disc so I can preserve them. Jeffrey offers a great service and I encourage you all to look into this. Jeffrey, pass this to Larry please. Larry can you get into the genealogical research room at Danville VA sponsored by the Piedmont Gen. Soc.??? I hear that they have excellent records and books on the area of NC/VA line and Pittsylvania Co. VA. They are said to have one of the largest collections around and are highly recommended. If you can dig through Pitts., Greenville, and Brunswick Counties, maybe something will turn up in there. Alana, I don't know about the others as far as photos. I have none of the Spence family other than what Essie published in the Carroll Co. VA Heritage book. Bette sent me a picture of Nancy Spence and her husband Daniel Gardner, that Essie had sent to her years ago. I would love to find some ! I wonder what happened to them all ???? James G. , Yes I think you should divorce Thorpe and adopt Moses ! Even if you can't completely document the relationship, you have to go with what you can surmise. 2 +2 always equals 4...... If a square peg doesn't fit in a round hole, it simply won't fit. Put it where it will fit. There is nothing wrong in saying " It is thought by the available evidence". I like your map idea ! I don't know about Sebastian Spence. I have seen the name Irving Spence attached to cartoons on TV for years. Joe, let me chart out your line. That's Norman and Tom's line too. I think there is a definite connection there, it's just a matter of finding it. Enough for now, Carolyn Spencetop@aol.com
