Hi cousins, I wanted to post this in case anyone needs it, especially Barry D. In 1802, Peter Spence of Davidson Co. TN gave his deposition to the court in the case of William Ridge, Tory. This case began in Surry Co. NC and created havoc for years afterward. I won't go into all of it, but depositions were taken involving a murder trial, and Peter Spence of Davidson Co. TN gave his deposition, proving that he had lived in Surry Co. NC. before he removed to TN . " Captain Spence declares that the father of William Terrell Lewis Jr. was Major Lewis of Wilkes Co. NC." The Ridge case involved many residents of the Allen Settlement around the Allen Iron Mine in Surry Co. The settlement was also in Yadkin Co. NC for a time due to boundary changes. It was on the corner where Surry, Wilkes and Yadkin counties meet.
