Stephen Spence was born 11/3/1800 and he married Martha Hooper in Wilkes Co. NC in 1818. They moved to Blount and Rhea counties of TN. Their children were: James born 1819 married Mahala Hale who was born in 1809 in TN Elizabeth b. ca. 1825 m. Thomas Jefferson Hale moved to Arkansas the MO John m. Tennesse Knight and they had 12 children. this info came from WSpence106@aol.com (non-member) William says: It is thought that Stephen was the son of a James Spence who homesteaded high on the Holston River and later owned land 6 miles east of Knoxville, TN. They are thought to be related to the other Spence families of Roane Co. TN in the 1794-1800 era. So there it is, if anyone can connect something to it .
