Gang, Thanks Tom for the direction. You're right, it is very unfriendly. Let's see how many times I forget to include it ! I'd leave aol but I've got so many things so many places I want to be found should anyone respond. You know ? Jeffery, I try to keep my eyes open for the SpenceR spelling, but I don't pursue it. Every Spence I have known will correct a person real fast when they put a R on their name ! We have that very problem with the transcriptions of the early tax lists. There was a Joseph Spence or Spencer in early Montgomery VA, that some transcribe as Spence and others Spencer, so the only way I will ever know is to get an actual copy of the tax list, in the tax collector's own hand. Even then, you can never be sure. So let me try out my signature line now. Catch everyone later...
