Thankyou James Carver for the information you sent on the churches in Augusta County. My ancestor, James Gardner came to VA after the revolution. He was born in Fishkill, NY in 1756 and enlisted in the revolution from NY and NJ. I found that he was married to a Rachel Wilson first and then my ancestor Tabitha Martin second. I have Family Tree Maker and went thru the marriage indexes for VA. Finally found a James Gardner who married Rachel Wilson in 1789 in Augusta Co. Received a copy of the marriage license and it read that a John Gardner and a James Gardner posted a marriage bond and that it was John Gardner who married Rachel Wilson. So now I'm more confused than ever. Anyway on the license the witnesses were her father William Willson(How his name was signed) and a James Willson. I think maybe the fwas the minister of the Stone church from 1780-1810 as you said. I still have to clearify the marriage of James to Rachel, I will try to contact Willson's and Gardner's from Augusta Co. and see if anyone knows anything. Thanks again for the information you put in the newsletter about the Stone church. Bette Chayer Woodstock, VT
