    3. Hi Folks, Carolyn made it public several days ago that I was "sidetracked" from the Spence Line doing other researching on other bloodlines of mine, which is very true. I normally keep active researching several lines at one time...this way my limited spare time is fully occupied. While digging around in Augusta Co., VA. on my lines of LUSK and a new line I've just started to research...STEPHENSON....I uncovered some interesting data .......such as: THOMAS SPENCE - COLONIAL SOLDIER AUGUSTA COUNTY, VA Thomas Spence was serving as a Colonial Soldier under Captain Ephraim Love in 1758. ( Thomas Spence was the father of James Spence 1740-1793 of Augusta Co.,VA.) Thought this might be of interest to some of you out there. There was no indication if he was a "ensign" (military rank) or not. Thomas also served under the command of : William Craven - Sgt. Adam Stephenson - Corp. Thomas McCorne - Corp. since he was listed among the "masses" of recruits it appears he was simply member of the unit, or a "private"...just a common grunt. No mention if Thomas liked French Broads or not...but he was a man...most likely he did. Jim James F. Carver 610 Gay Street, Box 214 Portsmouth, Ohio 45662-0214 e-mail: heritage@zoomnet.net
