Carolyn.....you wanted a brief insight to the Civil War Prison....called: LIBBY PRISON. LIBBY PRISON was located in Richmond, VA ..the CSA converted the Libby & Son Ship Chandlers & Grocery warehouse into a prison strickly for the securing of POW Union "Officers". The structure was 150 x 100 feet, three stories, containing 8 rooms. Housed in these 8 rooms along with rats and disease were 1,200 Union prisoners. The living conditions were the pits, ranked only 2nd to Andersville as being the worst prison within the control of the Confederate government. Hope this enlightens you a tad about this wonderful vacation site...where many checked in but failed to check out. FOR OUR INFORMATION..... Jim James F.
