    2. Susan, I got your message. I'm patient ! My main purpose for your line is to get it documented as well as possible and then add a few generations to our Spence Chart. it would be most helpful if you just send an email to the entire group, so that those of us with charts can add your info to our charts. You can mail me a hard copy of it too by snail mail as I would love to have it. Then the hard part begins, catching up with the "Burwell News" and meeting all your cousins ! A WORD OF CAUTION TO EVERYONE ..... Rootsweb mail lists can not handle file attachments. When you try, they bounce, and I get a copy telling me to inform my list that attachments aren't allowed. This means that I can't transcribe Burwell's pension files and save them in a seperate file, then forward the file to the list. So I have to either type the thing twice, once for my own file, and again to send to the list. So, I'm debating whether to just send it to the Carroll County webpage, to be included in the USGenWeb files, or send it to each of you individually. When I did Burwell's Will, I sent it to Carroll County VA, and you can go to their webpage and make yourself a copy, if you want it. It also comes up in a search of USGenWeb on Spence, which is good ! I'm leaning toward giving the pension file to Carroll County also. You may include a URL from your bookmarks by dragging in a email to the group, but don't try to forward a entire webpage or anything, because it won't work properly once it gets to the group, if it does at all. So, there, I've done my "duty as a mailing list host " . Susan, the GA Spences tie in to the James Spence & Jane Bluford Spence line very early. James Spence was born about 1748 in VA, Burwell was born about 1763 in VA, and Moses Spence was born in VA about 1764 or so. Moses Spence went to Burke County GA, and raised his family there. James Spence had a son Bluford Thorpe Spence, who also moved to Burke Co. GA, and lived next door to Moses Spence, so we have a strong idea that Moses was related to Bluford Thorpe Spence, son of James & Jane, but we aren't quite sure how yet. They were close, that's for sure ! So that's why we are inviting descendants of Moses in GA to join in this group. I've been keeping notes on the Issac Spence family of Wake Co. NC also , because some of them moved to SC and some moved to the foothills of NC too. I try to make note of all the clusters of Spence families, except those "flatlanders" that belong to Barbara's list. 3 sons of David Spence of MD moved to the coastal areas of NC early and Barbara keeps track of them. She has tracked them all down, and we don't fit. She does however think that the VA Spence line was related to the MD line back in the 1600's. She's still working on that connection. but before we can jump into her line, we need to find out our line precisely. Barbara will be writing a SPENCE book someday. Carolyn
