We are definitely heading in the Halifax, and Greenville county direction, just as Luanne's research indicates. What's more, I was studying John Lowman's tree 3939 on CD 6, and found some notes on some of the Spence's. He has received alot of info from Essie Spence Goad, a dear lady in Carroll County, about the family. One interesting note was that John stated that " A John Spence paid the tax for a Burwell Spence in 1787 in Henry County." That piece of info came to John from a genealogist at the Montgomery Co. Museum who located the item in one of her books. Remember we found the Wythe Co. tax list of 1792 that listed Bowell and 3 John Spence's ? MY THEORY IS THAT BURWELL WAS A SON OF JOHN SPENCE. Possibly the same JOHN & SARAH SPENCE, that I am trying to find. Carolyn
