The book is very > detailed about East Tennseess William Blount was appointed Governor of the Southwest Territory (Teritory of the United States South of the River Ohio) in 1790 and was instrumental in guiding the territory to statehood in 1796. After serving as Tennessee's first U. S. Senator, he was elected to the State Senate in 1798. He died at his home in Knoxville, TN, in 1800. Willie, half brother to William, was elected Governor of the State of Tennessee in 1809, 1811, and 1813. His last public service was at Tennessee's Constitutional Convention in 1834, and he died in Nashville in 1835. So both Willie (pronounced Wiley) and William were Tennesseans to the end of their lives. Joyce
