My Travis family came into SC at Savannah in 1772....In the family records it states.."Aunt Rachal crossed the Cumberland gap on her 12th birthday, walking into Kentucky on Christmas Day, 1803"... So many of the pioneers walked into Kentucky...the forest was thick and the trails narrow, so using a hore to pack in goods was the best way..Wagon trains may have come later, after the paths became wider roads...
