    3. Dear Mr. Woodward, Very well said. I have a present that some of you may find useful and interesting. In 1805 a Federal Road was opened through Cherokee Territory from North Central GA through what is now Chattanooga, TN. From there the trail went NW to Nashville or south along the TN River to Muscle Shoals, AL. This was a major route for people from GA and SC and southern NC to get to southern middle TN (Lincoln, Franklin, Bedford Cos) as well as northern AL (Lauderdale Co area) between 1805 and 1840. A spur of the road went north from GA to Tenga on the GA/TN line in the mountains. A Georgian historian named John Goff retraced the old Federal Road in the 1940's and wrote an article that I have scanned. I have received permission to put the article on the USGenWeb and it should be available shortly. It is a wonderful article for people like me who like to poke around on back roads and trace the old routes. Until it gets on the Web I will be glad to send it to anyone who would like it. Just tell me if you want it in Word or Text format. Otherwise I will send a message and URL to this Web site when it gets on the Web. I am currently tracing the migration routes of my ancestors from: GA (1810) to Bedford County, TN Bedford to Wayne Co, TN 1820 Wayne County to Ouachita, AR 1840's Wayne County to Chickasaw, MS 1840's (probably Natchez Trace) Hardin Co, TN to Robertson Co, TX 1883 Robertson Co to Hamilton Co., TX 1885 Hamilton Co to Edwards Co, TX 1895 Edwards Co to Portland, OR 1910 (by railroad) Portland to Los Angeles 1913 (by boat) If anyone has any interest in these migrations, I would love to correspond.
