Turner m Mary E. Roberts in 1859 Roane County. Mary is such a common name, but I suspect she is daughter of Isaac and Elizabeth Liles Roberts. Elizabeth Roberts (divorced) 46, is shown in 1850 census with Mary E. 15 and other children. No clues on Joseph D. Turner's parents???? There is an 18-year old Joseph Turner in the DOTSON household in 1850. Age doesn't fit too well. There is a John Turner 46, GA Edy 41 TN, who has 18 year-old son, Daniel, 12-year old Dennis, and other kids, but no Joseph. ======== Brownlow's Knoxville whig and Rebel Ventilator, Wed. 8 Mar 1865, Vol.II, No. 4 M. E., second daughter of J. D. and M. E. Turner, of Roane County, died February 10, 1865, at the age of three years, seven months and 20 days, after a painful illness of 24 hours; and two days later, John Alexander, son of the same parties, at the age of 2 months and 23 dys, after a very brief and painful illness. Sadness, keen and incomprehensible was the stroke, to be endured by loving and devolted parents. Surely the ways of Providence are past finding out. Little Bessie lived long enough to find a place in the love and affection of all who knew her, but died too soon to develop into fullness of life the early promise which she displayed only to be interred with her remains. The little ones together, hand in hand, left the storms of time and winged their flight to the felicity of the future state. ===== Maybe this daughter is *Mary Elizabeth "Bessie"* and maybe mother is too.
