    3. Hi List: If you happen to run across any COVEY folks in your genealogical travels I would certainly like to hear from you. Although there are ver few of us, we seemed to have spread like wildfire throughout the United States. Anything you can help me with will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance and I look forward to finding some of those lost rascals I’ve been looking for. Just remember Ol’ Tubby Joe Stottlemeyer. He should be the mayor of Watson. I have a group who were born in TN, moved to Illinois in 1820s, around 1854-1856 they were in Tyler, Smith Co Texas. the husband died there in 1862, he had been a lawyer, etc. in Illinois, also a Colonel or something probably in Black Hawk War???? I am just beginning research on him, but wonder why the move to Texas so late in his life? Seems his sons fought in USA IL units during War in 1860s, but his family in TN had among others - Peter Turney who was Col. of 1st TN Regiment and in 1880s Governor of TN. So it is a southern family, my branch was in Arkansas and was CSA, with some of the cousins being USA. Could this move have been because of the war coming? Did he feel he would rather be in Texas if there was a war coming? Or what was there about Tyler at that time? Do you know why your family moved from GA to Texas then? For land? that was the usual reason. Will see what I can find about routes at that time. Seem to remember something about there being an old port where a lot of people came in, but it is not there anymore. Mary

    3. Evening all I am looking for Socrates and Priscilla MARTIN listed on the Hickman Co TN 1850, residing with them is a daughter Mary and presumably Priscalla's father David B. YANDELL. Socrates was born in 1828 TN and Priscilla <1832 TN, they were married in <1849. Socrates was a grocer or store keeper. They are not on the 1860 Census for Hickman Co. TN. It has been suggested that they were living on the Natchez traces and before the Civil War many families moved to MS, AL, AR or Texas. Anyone with any ideas, I surely would appreciate it. At a dead end here. Thanks Anne ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

    1. TX to AR in 1878-82?
    2. Janet Nasdor-Jones
    3. Hi. I am new to the list and am trying to track down my grandmother's identity. Word in the family is that she traveled from Texas to Arkansas "in a covered wagon" as a young child ... somewhere between 1878 and 1882. I am trying to figure out where to start looking in the census for her, so I need to map out a route of where she might have been for the 1880 census. Does anyone know if there was a particular route which someone driving a wagon would have taken in those days? They ended up in Perry Co, Arkansas, which is just a little west of Little Rock and north of Hot Springs. I don't know where they started out. Thanks for any info you can provide. 2. It is possible that T.J. stood for Thomas Jefferson. Many parents named their children after the great presidents. Kathryn

One of my ancestors had twin sons - named one Thomas Jefferson and the other George Washington. I have seen a lot of Thomas Jefferson ______ in doing research. Seems expecially around 1830s or bit later. Now why then I am not sure since Jefferson was long gone. Mary Turney Miller [email protected]

Turner m Mary E. Roberts in 1859 Roane County. Mary is such a common name, but I suspect she is daughter of Isaac and Elizabeth Liles Roberts. Elizabeth Roberts (divorced) 46, is shown in 1850 census with Mary E. 15 and other children. No clues on Joseph D. Turner's parents???? There is an 18-year old Joseph Turner in the DOTSON household in 1850. Age doesn't fit too well. There is a John Turner 46, GA Edy 41 TN, who has 18 year-old son, Daniel, 12-year old Dennis, and other kids, but no Joseph. ======== Brownlow's Knoxville whig and Rebel Ventilator, Wed. 8 Mar 1865, Vol.II, No. 4 M. E., second daughter of J. D. and M. E. Turner, of Roane County, died February 10, 1865, at the age of three years, seven months and 20 days, after a painful illness of 24 hours; and two days later, John Alexander, son of the same parties, at the age of 2 months and 23 dys, after a very brief and painful illness. Sadness, keen and incomprehensible was the stroke, to be endured by loving and devolted parents. Surely the ways of Providence are past finding out. Little Bessie lived long enough to find a place in the love and affection of all who knew her, but died too soon to develop into fullness of life the early promise which she displayed only to be interred with her remains. The little ones together, hand in hand, left the storms of time and winged their flight to the felicity of the future state. ===== Maybe this daughter is *Mary Elizabeth "Bessie"* and maybe mother is too. An up-to-date item on the Red River Delta Queen to Travel Red River to Natchitoches: AP (25 May 1999) NATCHITOCHES - Civil War enthusiasts will soon be able to travel to historic sites along the Red River just like 19th Century travelers - on a 72-year-old paddlewheeler. The Delta Queen will arrive here June 7 as part of a cruise to places associated with the Red River campaign. It's the fartherest that the steamboat will have been up the river. Passengers will be shuttled into town and outlying historic sites such as the Pleasant Hill battlefield and Mansfield State Commemorative Area. The cruise will feature seminars by Civil War experts, a ballad singer and an actor playing Abraham Lincoln. Last year, the Delta Queen got up to Alexandria on the Red. The company hopes to make it as far as Shreveport withinseveral years.
