Good Luck, Ramona ----- Original Message ----- From: rgaston@earthlink.net To: southern-plantations-l-request@rootsweb.com Sent: Monday, February 25, 2002 3:32 PM Subject: subscribe...free My grandmother may have been a slave in Arkansas. I find her on the 1910 census listed as a mulatto....living as an orphan in a black home. The family name was fox+harkleroad, and I do find plantation owners in Crittenden Co, Arkansas named Harkleroad. Does a summary of freeman names, linked to their slave owners, exist? I do have a subscription to Ancestry.com.... your sister company. Thanks.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/FR.2ADI/72.2 Message Board Post: Terre Haute Plantation was on the east bank of St John the Baptist Parish, just downriver from San Francisco Plantation. Owners are listed as Tregre and Deslondes (no first names). Plantation was sold to Leon Graugnard in 1904. Currently Marathon Oil, Cargill Grain elevator, and the community of Lions are on the site. Between Cargill & San Francisco is the Graugnard House (1904) which may have a cottage & outbuildings from the plantation. Source: "Along the River Road", Mary Ann Sternberg, LSU Press, 1996. This is an excellent book on the history, geography, economics, families, and plantations along the river. The book has a mile by mile drive along the east bank from New Orleans to Baton Rouge, then across and back down the west bank.
