Minda , I have seen movies and such about the prisoners working for the county cleaning up etc.and in the south there was the chain gangs especially GA. but for the most part that's all in the past probably for the reasons given by jeannie. In CA. they are used to fight the forest fires and sometimes to clean the highways .The state pays them a pentince and it gets them outside for a time .They are trained before they fight any fires and they have to have good behavior . Then there is that sheriff Hagee in AZ. I think ? He even has them living in tents wearing pink and eating bulogna sandwiches,I'm not sure about the work though . Linda leaving for home on TUES.
