I don't remember going to the county fair until I was engaged to my husband. His cousin had two little girls, cute as a bug. I don't know how we chose which one we took, but we took the younger one. Black hair, about 5 yrs old. We took her and bought her all kinds of candy, took her on rides, completely spoiled her rotten. We had more fun than she did, but she was enjoying herself. I think we spent at least half a day, maybe more. Later, we lived in Salem Or and lived just up the street from the state fairgrounds. We went almost every year for a while to the state fair. I thoroughly enjoyed that. I liked the needlework, quilts, baking, county displays, hobbies of different people, and one year went into the animal section. I'm not fond of animals so I went with my husband at least once. One section I dearly loved to see was the gardening section. Beautiful flowers, and yard lay-outs. I would get the order blanks to order some of the flower bulbs, but rarely did. I had no idea what a fair was... Detroit Fair Grounds at 8 MILE and Woodward... First thing I noticed was the smell... Pop corn, French fries, Taffey Candy etc.. Best was French fries with vinegar sprinkled over them... We took pictures of them-I still have Rusty`s picture.. Sounds like great fun! I hope to take my grandkids to the fair--but I'm getting so down in my knees--it'll be a challenge. Ruth
