I see the trouble here in Tuscaloosa..in housing. Every developer (and his wife)...going in business, of using a bank for money, and his property for collateral...and goes out to all suburbs, including the hills and 'gullies' and clears away trees, pulls down the hills, builds shoddy 'hurry up' houses and most are just three bedrooms...but contain up to 34oo square ft or more. Selling up to 375,000, some much more due to certain sections. Some are all in the four to five hundred thousand.... and the appraisers and brokers making deals to get people in them. Most are sold before they are fiinished...that way they can select the latest appliances and colors etc. All the young people think they have to have one, (and parents of young couples..seem to help them get ahead of their friends or something!.)..now after the period, of the fine print that they don't read..like three years...when the mortgage balloons, and payments are higher...and interest rates not so good, and with inflation, and by then they also had bought two to three vehicles...with a child or two...and a boat, and pets that cost as much to take to the vet as a child to a doctor, and eating places here in every direction, almost touching, parking lot to parking lot, nobody cooks much anymore...put it on "plastic"...people are in over their heads.Add to that...factories and companies closing...moving overseas, and the like, and the house payment, does not get paid after the credit cards are maxed out... This is all true plus more..my oldest daughter is a realtor. The fabulous garden homes and rows of condos..here are going... one by one with a sign out front. I plan to get sugar today...Paulette, funny you would mention that! I could so easily see why that deal was rejected yesterday...I had already told my son, that I doubted if those millionaire, ones in congress, had had enough time to contact all their "buddies" back home to get the private financing, from them,(lending corporations and such) so they will make money off this...we know an attorney here who is in an advisory group to them...giving advice on this...they were not considering the middle class, when they voted NO......they were looking out for the fat cats who line their pockets. 'You scratch my back, I'll scratch yours" deals. They are working to get their friends to put up this money, not the treasury....because they will get a cut from the payback when it comes.Wait and see they will have made some deals by Thursday, or have it in place to do,they will vote onThursday...and maybe won't try to blame someone else, they are probably gonna make out like McCain is hlping them...I had rather see the government own an equity in the properties than a bank, or lending corporation. One of the house of Reps, from this district already has his name here at the New University Law Building, and a bypass to the interstate that everyone says we didn't need...and he owns several of these big developments (apartments and Condos ) This is very serious for little people..but they make it sound like it is a bail out of wallstreet...it is nothing but greed, the way they turn every deal to make themselves money, Doesn't bother them, if the little people who are struggling, get caught up in it. Oh well... S.
GREED is the word of the day, fer shure!!! You beez right stella..... and we have the same here with the housing etc...... funny though that so many brand new retail building are standing vacant for so long....no one to lease them or buy them but they were built anyway. The "fat cats" in Washington and other places need to take responsibility for this.... everyone should email their senators.... Let your voice be heard.... right or wrong..... let them know what you think. The ka-zillionaires that are running this country are so out of touch with us that it just makes me sick; sick I tell ya!! If any one of us committed such fradulent acts we'd be in the pokey before you could blink either eyelid. I have heard interviews with some wealthy people..... they say "who cares, this won't affect me"..... GRRRRR...... For many years the government has been warned by various people (even Bush) that trouble was on the horizon..... The horizon is here and those that spoke out saying no trouble with Freddy/Fannie etc. should now have to stand in front of us and admit they were knuckleheads or crooks or both! We can only prepare ourselves for the worst.....as best we can.... I was trying to think of other things besides food to hoard ..... T.P.... body soap....shampoo..... I just can't stand the thought of being dirt poor and stinky too!! paulette in sw fla usa...... any ideas.... I'm all eyes xoxoxoxoxo p.s. and I will be talking even more to my Father above.....
