Paulette it's never too late, I became a fan, when I started dating my husband who was a senior at the University of A;..as I had enjoyed highschool sports before that. ...Crimson is the school color, and I will look it up and tell you later but I think they got the name "Tide" from a write up long time ago, maybe after they beat somebody in the Rose Bowl, or somewhere,.a headline that said something like this.'The University of Alabama football team rolled over the ....(whomever it was)...like a Tidal Wave yesterday'.The name stuck...'The Tide" .Paul 'Bear' Bryant (from Texas) was a famous coach here that won back to back national championships.He won the name of the winninist coach in history My son and I attended the game, in Memphis when he won number 315 to put him over....He had to retire due to health, then died in 1980. Gene Stallings (also from Texas A and M) was coach later, who won national championship.Also back in early part of century,Alabama won championships.We get a bowl game every year. We beat the number one team in the nation, Florida, in the superbowl game, ,to win one of those national championships' ). We also have Crimson Tide men's baseball, a basketball team that just about every year has playoffs in tournament, for national championships..also soccer team, women's two ball teams, the basket ball being really a winning team, plus Women's Gymnastics, under coach Sara Patterson that is known nationally.we also have all the teams at UAB...(University of Alabama Campus at Birmingham) too, who are up and coming.
