Remember when just about everyone ate all the eggs they wanted ? Bacon or sausage and eggs cooked to order to go with the milk gravy and biscuits was a normal breakfast for hard working farm folks....There was always molasses on the table, and preserves of one kind or another....While we were enjoying this feast we often heard an old hen outside that had just replaced one of those eggs in her nest and was proudly telling the rooster and the world of this feat... Remember how those hens used to amble around the yard 'singing' sometimes ? Just so they didn't start crowing ... That meant a pot of chicken and dumplins for sure ! We can't go back even if we wanted to, but......we have our fine memories ...Life is good....
