hey carol and lee and all..... carol - you're not the first person who has mentioned black maters. I know a long haul truck driver that hauls "fresh" produce.... he says much stuff is picked green, put in the truck and left in there to ripen even though the tags say "VINE RIPENED"..... of course "vine" could be the name of the truck driver. I grew bunches of maters in pots this year but those pesky leaf miners got a hold of them and nearly wiped out the crop. What I did get was delicious....and I enjoyed every bite. I did find out that mater starts labeled "disease resistant" will not grow the next year from the seeds like normal maters. The maters at the store are mushy on the inside - gak. Lee is probably right.... we'll be gettin' our maters from China and the Chinese will paint them red using lead based paint!! paulette in sw fla usa get ready for Soylent Green......
