The first Spring we lived here birds just about drove us nuts ! The open windows at night let us hear the birds very clearly...and theres a dense woods all along the back of the yards up here on the ridge...Since we had a heat pump put in hubby insists on keeping the windows closed all the time, so I don't get to hear as much of the little critters as I would like... Today as I walked down to the garden I noticed something moving in the wild tangle that is our neighbors far back yard...it was a wild canary busily tearing apart a thistle head to get at the seeds....We can't hardly stand the way they have let that area go to pot, but have truly enjoyed watching it revert to nature...One year one plant will dominate and the next year it's something else....Lots of narrow/curly dock this year....hoping critters/birds like the seed, but i dunno. One year ragweed dominated....next year...not a sign of it....Last year it stayed a mass of white flowers, as the little wild aster or flea bane flowered..This year it's a Dukes mixture...Wondering what next year will bring !
