    3. Good Morning everybody, and happy June to you. How many of you are eating fresh veggies today, like me.? I envy those who can have a garden. I know the work involved, but it is so worth it. Oh Yeah, that reminds me...I t took the advice of Belle, or Jeannie T...forgot which one it was that said save up some food? I saw one of the economists on the news that said we might try to save a years supply of non perishables, .due to a truckers strike or whatever, soI made a shelf for it and started with tomato sauces and spaghetti sauces, and canned green beans, etc. Going to carry a lady to the doctor, who cannot drive...so I will TTY this evening. 3. Stella, I think several of us posted something about a back up supply of foodstuffs should be had by all. Storms, illness, power failures, etc. that can prevent a trip to the market. I like to feel secure in the knowledge that I have these things on hand. There are many non perishables on the market and some in one serving cans so that the lack of refrigeration isn'a problem. Some can be used right out of the can.jar with no cooking or other preparation is neccesary. One needs to choose according to the familie's likes Dried fruits are a good item to have on hand. I think nearly everyone likes baked beans. The instant cereals are a good choice if you have a way to heat water, There are many choices of things that will keep a long time if properly stored. From my own experience, I found that 'canned ' fruits and fruit juices have the shortest shelf life of other canned goods, so I now prefer the ones in glass. Once you start building your supply stash, you will find many things to add as you go along, a few extra things each shopping trip will soon give you a good backup. Don't forget the paper products. Iused to have a large garden at our place in Georgia, had much smaller patchs in othe places and usually had enough for our own needs. I california, had a 'very' small space but was determined to make use of it.I planted zuchini at the end of a planter box and trained it up on a small trellis. Well, Mr. Zuchini went traveling over the trellis and onto the block wall fence behind the three neighboring houses. I finally had to cut it out by the roots, it didn't want to give up. We all had our fill of zuchini that summer. My tomato plants did well in redwood tubs on the back patio.
