As I checked out the grapes at Wal Mart I began talking to a little old lady about them, and she said she remembered a type of wild grapes that folks called Muscadines...With a faraway look in her eye she softly describes the vines and the way they grow up in the trees and bear small clusters of 'black 'fruit...I told her I knew about them and loved them...She said she grew up over in West TN near where Loretta Lynn's Ranch is now, but 'Of course nobody had ever heard of Loretta Lynn back in those days'...We had a good time reminiscing, and I told her Wal Mart gets Muscadines in , and went and asked a nearby stock clerk when they would get them...He said the middle of August or first part of September, and they would be stocked near the strawberries....I told the little old lady they would be pricey, and she said she'd store them in her refrigerator and just eat a few along and remember the good old days as she savored them.... I got to thinking............What price would you put on a happy memory, when you were young and your entire life stretched out ahead of you ? It was a simple thing to climb trees and pick the juicy 'grapes' for Mama to make into delicious jelly and the hulls were made into preserves......Back in those days I had no aches and pains, no wrinkles or handfuls of pills to take...I reckon those Muscadines will be worth more to her than just about anything.....Jeannie T ____________________________________________________________ It's never been easier to change your name.
