I forgot about Cooking Class!!! By that time we had moved from southern Illinois to NW Indiana.... OH ME OH MY...... I was not ready for northern cookin' and that class was not ready for me. I had never in my life had a fried egg that was cooked in anything other than bacon grease......what the hey-ell was cooking oil??? And what exactly is "white sauce" .... looks like gravy without the good stuff in it.... paulette in sw fla usa..... I still like the gravy made from the drippin's off the fried chicken.... My partner in cooking class was Billie Jo. I still remember her. She was all thumbs when it came to fixing something. One day we had to cut out the sections of a grapefruit and arrange them on a plate. I didn't have any trouble doing mine but Billie Jo's was all mushy and looked horrible. I knew I was getting good grades in that class and Billie Jo was just barely passing. I switched our plates before the teacher came around to inspect them. The teacher saw mine and asked me what happened. I just told her I had problems. That was all that was said. Of course Billie Jo got a good grade on hers, which was the object. I had forgotten all about that incident. It took me the longest to learn what white sauce was. We made "thickenin' gravy" at home and that's all I knew to call it. I thought white sauce was some fancy doing's.
