golly STella...... long long long time ago I had a great house too......had a fireplace that I just loved....and a bay window that had doors opening out to the yard. Well, those days are gone forever....and dang! Looking up the winter predictions, I googled Old Farmers Almanac.....it's still around. I am just opposite of y'all..... keeping cool in the summer is my problem and boy oh boy, it's a big one this year. Our last winter was also colder than usual......it was so cold here that an angel in disguise sent me warm / cozy socks!! I'm thinkin' I'm gonna be needin' those sockies again this year too. And who mentioned ants..... we are overrun with those pesky little critters..... my truck is full of them!! I don't mind the occasional frog and I can almost tolerate a spider now and then but ants are droppin' down on me while I'm drivin' . I'm sure other people on the road figger I'm either nutz or drunk with all the arm flailing - slappin' at my hair - whappin' the dashboard and nose scrunchin' goin' on when I'm behind the wheel. What a nightmare.....mostly for the people I've run off the road. paulette in sw fla usa..... .p.s. Tropical Storm Gustav has arrived on the tropical scene......GO AWAYEEEE!!! Paulette, We sometimes have a problem with ants, leaving a bit of honey, syrup or grease around the sink can draw thousands of them to share . We have to make sure we don't leave anything out for them to get to. Water bugs and spiders appear now and then but not often. These homes have no basements or attics so the bugs have to have someplace to go. I haen't seen a roach in the 7 years we have lived here, my daughter seems to be a pretty good housekeeper. The extremely low humidity also keeps them from multiplying very fast. My friend in California puts crumbled 'bsy leaves around in her kitchen cabiners, says they keep the bugs and ants away. Hope you are doing ok and had no damage from the storm.
