Carol, I can only give you some possibilities . Remember this one fact abt. folks back then ,they took their religion personally and expected their chillins too follow them and stay in the same religion they brought them up with and be in church every worship day ! I was reading about one of my own ancestors that went with a group of men to visit someone that didn't show up for church one time but he was there next worship day with his family early . There were groups that spun off of different religions some of them were'nt to credible .A catholic that became a protestant Oh My ,that was considered a sin .They prayed for you but wouldn't have nothing to do with you .If you didn't go to church you were a outcast to your pius family and friends .Perhaps he fathered a child out of wedlock ?There's to many reasons to list here .If your talking abt. the early puritans you really didn't need to do much of nuthin to be kicked out of the family .I think if we could find out what the MEUS means we might get a idea .
