Mary Clyde, We had it in the Georgia schools. The teachers made i big deal about it. So many of the old ways have been lost with nothing worthwhile to replace them. Sad but true. I had forgotten about the May Pole dances. Weaving in and out with the colored streamers. I was in school in the early 40's. I don't remember what years we did this, whether I did it more than one year or not, but I remember doing it. I just thought of another tradition we did. Did any of you put May Day baskets on the neighbors door handles, filled with flowers? I did that in elementary school. Mama had beautiful flower beds and one special neighbor I would always take a May Day basket over and hang on her door. She said she knew who brought it because no one else had the flowers that Mama had.
