It wasn't a gourmet meal, but the whole family enjoyed a pot of dried lima beans with a ham hock in it. Of course, cornbread was always served with it to sop up the liquid. Still sounds good even to this day. I think that was the only kind of beans we had a ham hock with. The other dried beans was served as a vegetable with whatever else Mama cooked. Usually potatoes of some kind. My inlaws ALWAYS had a pot of beans cooking. As soon as one pot of beans was eaten, they had a wood stove for heat, so they put another pot on the stove to cook all day. I think they were mostly pinto beans. Growing up, I know we had navy beans a lot because I always put catsup on them.Emma > Date: Sat, 26 Feb 2011 13:11:49 +0000 > From: freckletoes@comcast.net > To: southern-chat@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: [SOUTHERN-CHAT] Chili/left over/gourmet > > with left over chili (hot or not) I mix it with spaghetti noodles.
