    3. No flu shot for me. My doctor tried to give me one last week when I went for a check-up and I refused. Jen, cortisone usually works pretty quick if it's going to work. Know you will be glad when your regular doctor returns. Kay In a message dated 10/11/10 15:09:55 Central Daylight Time, AZJen@npgcable.com writes: Meant to add this message as a "P. I know that people have different opinions on them...I'm just curious b/c we haven't decided what to do yet. We were going to go today..but my knee is really hurting me. Don't know if I mentioned it or not...but my rt knee had been hurting me a great deal lately. I ended up going to our orthopedic surgeon up here. I couldn't get in to see him, but I could get in to see his PA, James. I figured that James would be okay b/c the surgeon who I have seen before, for surgery, had told me when I broke my ankles that as far as he was concerned, whatever James would do, would be what he would do. Well, I told this man how much pain I was in & he really didn't seem to think much of it. He took an X-Ray of my knee & leg. Said there was a spur in the bones that attached to my knee. Then he said that my knee looked pretty messed up. ! He gave me a cortisone shot. He didn't even ask me if I wanted to shot...just took out the needle & jabbed it into my knee. When we left his office, he said to wait around 2 days & then the pain would subside. Well, after more than a week I was begging him for pain medication & he refused to give it to me...telling me that I hadn't waited long enough for the cortisone to help me. I got rather upset b/c the knee was hurting more each day. Finally he wrote up an order for me to have a MRI at our local hospital. The results came back that I had a fractured knee cap. Paul had gotten very upset with his office b/c they wouldn't do anything for me. I was awake for nearly a week due to the pain. After they got the results back in...the gal who is in charge of the office called & asked if I wanted to change my doctor to the surgeon rather than the PA. Paul talked to her & they got things pretty much straightened out...& I will be seeing Dr. Caulkins when he returns from ! his vacation on 10/18. I'm sure that there will be something said abo ut the treatment which I received. I have had many falls in the past few years & I wouldn't doubt for one minute that I haven't damaged my knee cap due to all the falls which I have experienced. What got me is that I was in so much pain & yet this fellow refused to prescribe any kind of pain medication for me. Now I really do have to get to work around here. Paul came in & went out. I heard him say good-bye & I haven't the slightest idea where he has gone to. Guess I better get ready to go & get a flu shot if that's what he wants to do. ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to SOUTHERN-CHAT-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    3. I plan to get one. Should have gotten one the other day when I was at the doctor's office but I forgot to ask for one. I always get one and so far, haven't had the flu or a bad cold. 3. I just called Walgreen's & they say they will be there during the week M-F from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM. On the weekends they have different hours. I probably should have gotten out & had one today. I know there are pros & cons to them. I just figure I will get it done again. Knock on wood..so far, I haven't had any problems with the flu. My sister wrote the other day & said how sick she was. She said she had spent nearly 3 days in bed & hadn't felt this bad in years. I can remember when I was younger & I would get the flu. I would be in bed for quite some time. My Mother wouldn't let me have anything to drink except 7-UP. Then in those days, you could buy paregoric at the pharmacy without a prescription. I guess the young people have really put a stop to that...they were using it to get high on & now you cannot even "see" the bottle without a prescription. (Just joking about the "seeing"..but they really have caused a lot of problems b/c now if I want cold & sinus pills which I used to get off the shelf, I have to go & ask for them behind the pharmacy counter..plus, they want my driver's license. I guess that has happened to cough medicine too.) I used to be able to sign for the cough medication...now I have to have a prescription from my doctor. There really have been some big changes in the past few years. When I was teaching, I was amazed at the different medications which the children would use to get high on. We would have workshops where we would talk about what children were doing with different drugs which they would get OTC. I can remember how "daring" we used to think we were being...we would take aspirin & soda pop & we thought we were really something that was that was "questionable". That really isn't the word I want to use. However, I know that we really thought we were hot shots. Nowadays, children are doing things which they can end up killing themselves by doing them. I saw a show sometime ago regarding how they would huff the fumes from paint cans. To me, that is so scary to think that children would even think about doing such a thing!! One of the propositions which we have to vote on in November is regarding using marijuana for medicinal purposes. Personally, I simply do not feel right voting for such a thing. It seems like one thing leads to another thing & it just doesn't get better. I have either heard or read where 2 yr olds were given marijuana!! Now they cannot inhale..so what do people do, put it in brownies?? The idea of a 2 yr old having access to marijuana at that age...really upsets me!! ~J ----- Original Message ----- From: "Roses" <roses4831@msn.com> To: "southern-chat" <southern-chat@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, October 11, 2010 3:44 PM Subject: Re: [SOUTHERN-CHAT] Flu shots > > I plan to get one. 3. Talking about sniffing ??? There was a 5 year old girl in my kindergarten class who loved sniffing markers. Said she liked the smell, made her feel good. 3. We have been getting flu shots since they first came out. 8-9 yrs ago when I got so sick..they thought maybe it was due to the flu shots. Finally turned out to be aspiration pneumonia. When I would go to bed at night, I would end up sleeping sitting up. My food was coming up into my lungs. By the time I got to the doctor I usually was in pretty bad shape. I've lost track of how many times that the doctors told Paul that I wouldn't be alive the next day. Regarding the cortisone shot, that's what this PA said & I knew that they hadn't helped me in the past. After a week of constant pain, I finally told the PA that I simply couldn't take the pain any more. I spent nearly a week awake & crying. Paul finally called & asked why they wouldn't give me anything for pain & he was told that I should wait for the cortisone to take hold. Well, I waited for a bit over 1 week & I felt that was long enough. Yes, I'll be glad when the surgeon returns on 10/18. What scares me is that I may need surgery. I was also scheduled for back surgery down in the Valley & I haven't even gotten the tests done for that. I figure that I better be able to walk before my back is operated on. ~J ----- Original Message ----- From: "jkaywojack" <jkaywojack@aol.com> To: <southern-chat@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, October 11, 2010 3:30 PM Subject: Re: [SOUTHERN-CHAT] Emma & Paula, P.S. > No flu shot for me.
