In the last installment they had their encounter with the Indian and all the folks at the fort were dead .They had made it to Fort Laramie . Early on Catherine learned that she was pregnant after all,but there was no turning back.She had family and friends to help. Another son, Andrew Jackson Rickard, was born at Devil's Gate, Wyoming , On July 12 ,1853. Several weeks later ,just as they were approaching Oregon, her sister, Elizabeth Schultz, gave birth to her first child a daughter ,Sarah .
