Friends on Southern-Chat, Well, I'm afraid I'm not really up on the prices, except for what I see in the paper. I do know, however, that they are going up & it doesn't take a genius to figure that out. We have put away quite a bit of canned goods. We are still needing more things. I tell Paul this & he sometimes doesn't really agree. Then I have to tell him, "We are going out together & shop & get all these things which we should have long ago!" Now I know that many of these items we would have saved on if we had just bought them some time ago. My biggest problem is that I cannot get out & about like I used to b/c of this knee replacement. I have rehab on Monday & depending on how I'm doing, we may take a ride to Wally World. Their prices have really been going up too. I still cannot get over all the folks buying like crazy in there. And most of the stuff they buy is just 'junk'. I'm not referring to food...just 'junk' that's all. I guess they have a steady paycheck coming in that they can rely on. We are on a fixed income & have to watch our pennies carefully. If I left it all up to Paul...well, I do for most of the shopping, but he goes with a list. He's an impulsive buyer & I know he would come home with a lot of 'junk' too. Like you, Paula, we have a number of cases of soup. Paul liked the Prego Sauce, so we have that too. I'm not too sure I would care for that cold...especially if we don't have a way to heat it. Normally we live on chicken broth during the winter. It always is nice to make a chicken broth soup. I guess I better see if they have chicken on sale this coming week. I think we will have room for more chicken noodle soup for our freezer. Next on the list are walkie talkies. I'm very determined to get those up here. We are in such an isolated area. Even though all the ham operators have come forth, I cannot see that helping us. It used to be you could buy a decent pair of walkie talkies at Radio Shack from $45-$50. I wouldn't doubt that they have gone up by now!! Paul had sent for some information on solar generators. Turned out they wanted between $4000-$5000 for the generator & in the long run, it simply wasn't worth it. Also, we just didn't have that kind of money to lay out on a generator. To buy a regular one is expensive enough. Paul used to rent them back in IL when our power went out for long periods of time. Our neighbor would see we had it, so they would split the price with us so they could hook into it as well. I'll never forget coming home one day after he had the rented generator up & running & here he was sitting in our family room watching TV. I asked him what was going to happen to all the things in our refrigerator/freezer since he was using the generator to give power to his TV? I think he felt a bit foolish, b/c it never dawn on him to hook it up to our refrigerator/freezer. ~Jen in Payson, AZ ----- Original Message ----- From: "*paula*" <freckletoes@comcast.net> To: <southern-chat@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, December 12, 2010 9:10 AM Subject: Re: [SOUTHERN-CHAT] PRICE ALERT > LaDonna..... you must have read my mind!
