    3. Hi Kay and all.... I'm warm but the snow is up over the tops of my boots! I never crossed the big water - was always too afraid of that long of a flight - but I had always dreamed of going to Africa. My travels took me to the south = down as far as the Panama Canal (by merchant ship). We sure do have it wonderful in the good ole U.S. of A. ;I've really enjoyed reading all the adventures y'all have had. xoxoxo ~~~: ) ----- Original Message ----- From: "jkaywojack" <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Thursday, January 14, 2010 2:03:53 PM GMT -06:00 US/Canada Central Subject: Re: [SOUTHERN-CHAT] Travels.. Hi freckle toes, missed your chats, glad to see you back. Are you keeping warm in cornpone, IN? That potty experience in Mexico is one that I could certainly do without. We just don't have any idea how fortunate we are in this country until you hear about how the rest of the world lives. 3. Keep warm. What country in Africa do you want to visit? When I think of Africa I am reminded of one of John Wayne's movies, "Hatari", enjoyed that movie. 3. Yes, I certainly do agree with Kay & Paula. I think once you see how other people live in different countries..even on other islands, you realize how wonderful our country is!! When we were in Curacao (sp) all the homes there had fences around them. I guess neighbors would steal from each other. The people there really had a rough time of it. We were told to always wear nice clothes when we went into Willemstad to shop. The natives on the islands didn't want to see us in shorts of bermudas, They wanted us to dress up in dresses & things which made the women look nice. I had brought clothes that I could wear on the island. The island is owned by the Dutch & the first thing I expected to see Blond, Blue-eyed men & women there. Instead there were all very beautiful black people. They were so slow in doing things & it's almost a charm that they exhibit Paul & I decided to stop at a KFC for a bite to eat. I had on a sundress & sandles. The woman who was working at KFC looked as though she was going to church. High spike heels, a beautiful dress. She was clean & you could tell that she took care of herself. The people on this island were some of the most hospitable group I have met in a very long time. I remember one day we ended up in this French Restaurant. We kept seeing girls going up & down stairs which lead in to the building. It turned out that their building was a brothel. The people over there called those places "Happy Houses". Before we left our hotel, my husband gave the maid who had done such a nice job of keeping our beds changed & made up every day. Plus, if we asked her for something..we found it waiting for us when we got back to our rooms. He gave the maid $10.00 & she started crying. I guess that was a fortune to her. ~J in AZ ----- Original Message ----- From: "*paula*" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, January 14, 2010 5:30 PM Subject: Re: [SOUTHERN-CHAT] Travels.. > Hi Kay and all....
